2009 - 2010
Inspite of it being an election free year the period September 2009 – 2010 was a busy one. Twenty four Active Citizenship/Voter Education workshops were facilitated in different parts of the country. All the groups found the workshops to be enjoyable and a ‘big change’ experience. Among disability groups there was particular strong emphasis on helping people to be advocate. A flyer is being posted to community leaders/workers with information about our workshops for the coming year.

After The Elections
Approximately 58% of people living in Ireland voted in the 2009 June Elections.

Many people believe that by casting their vote they have met their obligation to participate in the democratic system. In 5 years time voters will be asking themselves how effective were the Local Councillors and MEPs elected in 2009 in delivering on their promises. Voting at elections time is not enough. If we seek a more just and inclusive society we need to continue to engage with our electoral representatives. This engagement is essential to ensure that promises are honoured and our representatives held accountable!
